WHY POKER?

Poker is the second largest philanthropic sporting event in the world. Anyone can play. In fact, first-timers often find themselves at the final table. Beginner’s luck may be one thing, but if you join us for the event, you will be elevating humanity regardless of how many hands you’ll be dealt. And that’s what it’s all about—never giving up or turning our backs on the world around us.

Haiti Fleri Farm

One-third of the population in Haiti is food insecure and one-fifth of the children there are malnourished. And though half of the population works in agriculture, poor yields and a lack of diversity in nutrition lead to the food insecurity. The success of the NVRFLD poker tournament provides a unique opportunity to impact the nutritional health of families through the development of a sustainable, 30-acre farm in Cite Soleil.

Zimbabwe Hospitals

The Victoria Falls and Lukosi Hospitals in Zimbabwe are operating under dire circumstances, not to mention, improper sterilization and unsanitary conditions. Through the success of the NVRFLD poker tournament, MATTER will work with Zimbabwe partners to fully equip the Lukosi Maternity Hospital with new beds, ultrasound capabilities, an operating theater, exam rooms, a birthing room and recovery area. As for the Victoria Hospital, new equipment will be installed in their maternity ward, labor and delivery ward, and neonatal unit.

Zimbabwe Farm

The success of the NVRFLD event will also allow for the design and implementation of a community farm on the grounds of Lukosi Maternity Hospital so that nutrient rich foods are available for expecting mothers. This farm will also serve as a community and training hub that assists and empowers families in the area to create their own plots on the farm. And therefore, they can serve the greater community.
